Technology and Training

Several throwers training at the Gipps Road Throws Centre, and working with coaches Lawrie Barclay and Denis Knowles, have engaged Hayden Knowles (Denis's son) to develop their specialised conditioning programs.

Hayden is currently the strength and conditioning coach for the Parramatta Eels Rugby League Club and amongst other throwers training at the ground has prepared the conditioning programs for Discus thrower Dani Samuels and Hammer thrower Karyne DiMarco, both Australian representatives.

The programs are developed for athletes' individual requirements based on personal assessments and are mapped out using the Visual Coaching software application.

The computer system used at the gym to run the program and monitor athlete progress was kindly donated by Jeff Semple through his company Semple Solutions Pty Ltd.

Jeff, as well as being a track and field coach has been a long time supporter of local athletes and coaches.

Hayden has a background in track and field, being a top line junior discus and hammer thrower in the mid nineties and brings his expertise to this exciting new project.

Through his company Competitive Edge Australia Pty Ltd, he prepares conditioning programs for athletes in a diverse range of sports including boxer Danny Green and Socceroo Milo Sterjovski currently based in Switzerland.

The recent successes of Dani Samuels are a testament to value of the system and Hayden's capability in this area.

Jeff and Hayden are both happy to be working as a team with committed athletes and coaches to professionally develop a sport that we all love and Hayden enjoys being involved with the physical development of our country’s best athletes, especially those based in NSW.
